Meru National Park Betiri


Betiri Meru National Park is very representative of the mangrove ecosystem, swamp forest and lowland rain forest in Java.

This national park is the habitat of rare plants are RAFLESIA flower (Rafflesia zollingeriana), and several other plant species such as mangrove (Rhizophora sp.), Api-api (Avicennia sp.), Hibiscus (Hibiscus tiliaceus), Calophyllum inophyllum (Calophyllum inophyllum), varnish (Gluta renghas), bungur (Lagerstroemia speciosa), Pulai (Alstonia scholaris), Bendo (Artocarpus elasticus), and several species of medicinal plants.

In addition, Meru National Park has the potential for protected species Betiri consisting of 29 species of mammals and 180 species of birds. Animals such as bison (Bos javanicus javanicus), long-tailed macaques (Macaca fascicularis), leopard (Panthera pardus melas), ajag (Cuon alpinus javanicus), bobcat (Prionailurus javanensis bengalensis), deer (Cervus russa timorensis), flying squirrels red tail (Iomys horsfieldii), peacock (Pavo muticus), leatherback turtles (Dermochelys coriacea), hawksbill (Eretmochelys imbricata), green turtle (Chelonia mydas) and hawksbill ridel / timeless (Lepidochelys olivacea).

Betiri Meru National Park, famous as the last habitat of the tiger stripes Java (Panthera tigris sondaica) are rare and protected. Until now, these animals can never be found again and is estimated to have been extinct. Extinction of the tiger stripes are three types of Java means the extinction of tigers from eight species that exist in the world (in Iran, the Caspian tiger, the tiger Bali and Java tigers in Indonesia).
This national park has its own characteristic that is the habitat of leatherback turtles, hawksbill, green turtle, and turtle ridel / cracked Sukamade Beach. On the beach was built some simple facilities for breeding turtles in order not to become extinct.

Some locations / attractions to be visited:

* Beach Rajegwesi. Nautical tourism, swimming, observing wildlife / plants and cultural tourism (traditional fishermen).
* Sumbersari. Grazing area of 192 hectares to view wildlife attractions such as sambar, deer, antelope and a natural laboratory for research activities.
* Beach Sukamade. See the attraction of sea turtles are laying eggs, camping, windsurfing and observations of plants / animals.
* Green Bay. Exploring the forest, marine tourism and swimming.
