
Kutai National Park (KNP) is one of the mainstay of tourism in East Kalimantan. Total area of KNP area is approximately 198,629 hectares. In addition as a venue for nature tourism, TNK can also be used as a research activity, perkemahaman, or educational nature. KNP is the third national park in the ground water used as an orangutan rehabilitation center located in the Gulf of Kaba.
Kutai National Park has a variety of major vegetation types of forest vegetation beach / mangroves, freshwater swamp forest, heath forest, lowland forest puddles, forests ulin / meranti / lime and mixed dipterocarp forest. This national park is representative of the most widely ulin forests in Indonesia.
Some plants that exist in national parks such as mangrove (Rhizophora sp.), Tancang (Bruguiera sp.), Sea pine (Casuarina equisetifolia), Simpur (Dillenia sp.), Meranti (Shorea sp.), Benuang (Octomeles sumatrana), lime (Dryobalanops sp.), ironwood (Eusideroxylon zwageri), 3 types Raflesia and various types of orchids.
Ulin tree contained in Sangkimah have free high branches of 45 m, diameter of trunk circumference of 225 cm or 706 cm and a volume of 150 m3. This tree is listed as the tallest and largest trees in Indonesia.
Besides having the potential of plant diversity, the park also has a high potential for wildlife diversity, namely the group of primates such as orangutans (Pongo Satyrus), Borneo gibbon (Hylobates muelleri), bekantan (Nasalis larvatus), long-tailed macaques (Macaca fascicularis fascicularis), monkey (M. nemestrina nemestrina), and slow loris (Nyticebus coucang borneanus). This group can be found in the Gulf of Kaba, Prevab-Mentoko and Sangkimah. Ungulate groups such as the banteng (Bos javanicus lowi), sambar deer (Cervus unicolor brookei), deer (Muntiacus muntjak pleiharicus), and deer (Tragulus javanicus klossi). This group can be found throughout the area of Kutai National Park. Group carnivores such as bears (Helarctos malayanus euryspilus) stork barrels (Leptoptilos javanicus), a white belly sea eagle (Haliaeetus leucogaster), pergam king / green (Ducula Aenea), jungle fowl (Gallus sp.), Parrots / Tiong gold ( Gracula religiosa), and Little Cormorant snake asia (Anhinga melanogaster).

Cultural attractions outside the Park:
ERAU Festival in September in Tenggarong.
The best visiting season: April to October each year.
How to reach the location: Balikpapan - Samarinda about 2.5 hours by four-wheeled land vehicles, then proceed to the Bontang about three hours. Kaba-Bontang Bay using a speed boat about 30 minutes. In addition, there are between Bontang-Sanggata highway divides the national park.
