The roads to the Chinese Authorities in Batavia Cemetery
Age Jakarta crawl continue to reach number five centuries. The design of what has occurred by the central government and the Jakarta government to Jakarta at the age of half a millennium, do not have to mess around. Perhaps because they had no clear program and certainly even for a period of five years. The reason, is often not the programs that they make but the project that made the program.
For those readers who are planning to make a holiday schedule for the son / daughter, nephew, brother, or yourself, perhaps explore and understand the major role of the Chinese in Batavia building could be an alternative that does not just fill the holiday. The fact proves the existence of Batavia can not be separated from the role of the Chinese. Call it Souw Beng Kong, Khouw Kim An, Phoa Beng Gan, Nie Ho Kong. They are the Chinese authorities who had a big hand in Batavia.
Community Friends of the Museum will host the event Plesiran Old Days, this time with the theme "Chinese people rise Aandeel Batavia" on Sunday, June 28, 2009. According to the Chairman of the Friends of the Museum Community Ade Purnama, this event was held in order HUT Jakarta to remind that Jakarta can not forget the contribution of the Chinese in the development of Batavia to Jakarta today.
Souw Beng Kong arrived in Banten in 1604. When Beng Kong and then triumphed in Banten, kemasyurannya audible to the ear Jan Pieterszoon Coen who conquered Jayakarta in 1619 and began building a new town called Batavia. Coen need people to build the Batavia, the Beng Kong Chinese residents were asked to bring from Banten to Batavia. And then Beng Kong also received his Captain as judged meritorious by the Coen.
Captain tomb first Chinese in Batavia is fortunate to soon be found in densely populated areas. The location of the tomb is among the dense settlement at Mangga Dua area, named the Prince Street alley at the White Rose Youth. The tomb dates from 1644, when Beng Kong died. In 1929, Maj. Luckily later this tomb was found again and conserved under observation Wastu Zhong. Now that the tomb had been proposed to be objects of cultural heritage and will be developed into the Old Town Historical Park Batavia.
Speaking of Kim An Khouw will remind us of a Chinese building a modern building locked up in Jalan Gajah Mada. Yes once, Candra Naya. Although the main building, under the modern buildings, it has been repaired but has not functioned well. Meanwhile, building on the left and right has not been returned. Some time ago Naniek Widayati Priyomarsono, Tarumanegara University architecture professor, who co-conservation deal said Candra Naya, reconstructions of pavilion left and right are still having trouble finding skilled contractors conservation.
Candra Naya is the part that remains of three large buildings on Jalan Gajah Mada (Molenvliet West) of ancient Chinese architecture. Former building Tiong Hoa Hwee Siang (Chinese Chamber of Commerce) is now used as building SMU 2; former Chinese Embassy building which has now been razed to the ground; and Candra Naya (Sin Sun Hui).
This building was founded in 1807 by Tian Sek Khouw (Khouw Sek Teng) and followed his son, Khouw Tjeng Tjoan, in 1867. From Khouw Tjeng Tjoan, this building was bequeathed to his son, Khouw Kim An, who later became Majoor der Chineezen (1910-1918 and 1927-1942). His shrine is also included in the circuit to be visited.
In the event that plesiran, Ade said, four resource persons will come to give an explanation on every place to be visited. They are Wastu Zhong, conservator tomb Souw Beng Kong; Mona Lohanda, author of Kapitan China in Batavia who also understand the history of the Chinese in Batavia; Naniek Widayati author of Houses of Major Chinese who were involved directly in the conservation of Candra Naya, and Lily Suratminto that VOC understand correctly about the trip.
