Lawang Sewu



Located in the complex Sewu Lawang Tugumuda, former berbaya magnificent art deco building, which is used as the headquarters of the Dutch railway (tram), or better known as the Nederlandsch Indische Spoorweg Maschaappij (NIS). The building work of Dutch architect Prof. Jacob F. Klinkhamer and B.J Queendag.

according to historical records was built in 1903, then officially opened on 1 July 1907.Masyarakat Semarang more familiar with this building known as Building Lawangsewu, considering that this building has a number of doors in large quantities, in a figurative sense yangt mean much in number a thousand or more, which in the language Java Lawang means the door and Sewu Sewu.Lawang means a thousand.
From historical records, Lawang Sewu always crowded with tourists on the holiday season, the first built in 1903 and inaugurated its use on July 1, 1907. Antiquity Lawang Sewu now no less interesting than the Church Belenduk so phenomenal and stands firmly in the Old City of Semarang.
