Krakatoa Islands



Krakatau Islands, a remnant of the island of Krakatoa volcano called Ancient, has a diameter of 11 km and height of 2 km (listed in the Javanese Book of Kings) which is expected to erupt and split into 3 cluster of Islands in about Century VI. Krakatoa arise as an active volcano until it reaches a height of 830 meters with a diameter of 5 km.

Volcanic activity on a regular basis starting in May until August 1883. First time erupted from the summit. The act is preceded by a series of earthquakes and on December 26 and August 27, 1883 eruption that sounded terrible until 4500 km from the point of eruption, such as in South Australia, Ceylon and the Philippines. At the time it happened a very large tidal waves as high as 40 meters, which destroyed 295 villages with a victim more than 36,000 people died, especially around the area of the Sunda Strait, Lampung Bay Beach. Material dimuntahkannya approximately 18 cubic kilometers, with dust flying reaches a height of 80 km from the sea surface and resulted in total darkness for 22 hours. As a result of the eruption of Krakatoa Island, the only remaining more or less a third.
Krakatau Islands has a unique attraction for both domestic and foreign tourists, especially for researchers, because the island is a natural laboratory for various disciplines (Geology, Conservation, Biology and Volcanology). In addition, the activity of Anak Krakatau, the sunset in the afternoon is a very attractive natural panorama to behold. Mount Anak Krakatau emerged from the sea surface in 1927 and until December 1999, Anak Krakatau has reached a height of approximately 400 meters. The height continues to grow several feet each year.
